Early one Saturday in November two of us from St Cuthbert’s set off for Manchester and a New Wine Men’s Day. I am still not sure how we found Audacious Church where the event was held but it suddenly appeared while I was doing a u-turn around the block convinced that we had gone too far. That was the first miracle. Not in Cana but in Salford.
There followed a day of contemporary worship, prayer and seminars in the company of several hundred men of all ages. The speakers, who included a British Army general, Tim Cross, and Roger Simpson, the Archbishop of York’s Evangelist, covered a wide range of subjects all delivered from a blokish perspective. During the day we were encouraged to pray for each other and at the end to approach a stranger in the hall, to undertake to pray for them over the next year and to keep in touch by e-mail or text.
Events like this can form a very important part of personal discipleship and I would encourage more of you to take opportunities that arise from time to time.
Ladies! You too can get fired up. There will be a New Wine Women’s Day in Harrogate on Saturday March 15. In recent years Pam has taken a car load of delegates to these events and this year she is hoping that two cars will be going from Marton so that there will be seats available. If you are interested in finding out more have a word with Pam.
